    Marvelous Things

The novel revolves around “Asmaa”, a widowed peasant woman, who refuses to surrender to her harsh reality … and desires to provide her children with the best opportunities possible; she spares no efforts in making her dreams come true … the brilliant engineer, “Hazem”, who represents knowledge and power … and the sea captain who embodies fortune and status and writes stories and poems as if he weaves history from cobweb.
The novel will indeed confuse you, you will wonder if it is about the struggle of classes, the struggle of life, or the hope that evades us each time we approach it, turning into thin vapor beyond our reach, or the secrets that haunts the underworld of graves, or the book of dead in which we inscribe our fates, or is it the submission to little things that lead us to marvelous destinations? Indeed it is a perplexing read.

The small wave, the sand, the seagull bird and the fish searched for their friend “Marwa”, whom they meet at the same time every year. The wind flew all over searching for her; it found her sitting at the beach with her eyes glued to the cellphone in her hands, her fingers hovering on its buttons, and her ears, deaf to the squeaks of the seagull, fully immersed in its recorded tunes.
